CASE STUDY: KeySpan

KeySpan Turned to T&K Asphalt for a Challenging Project with Many Restrictions

KeySpan's Braintree facility parking lot needed to be repaved. It was over 30 years old and without proper maintenance, it was falling apart and was starting to pose a risk of injury to employees and customers.

The job at hand included 60,000 square foot of asphalt that needed to be removed and replaced. And, there was a challenge. Because the site was once used to produce natural gas, it was considered contaminated... and T&K could not dispose of the asphalt using traditional practices. Instead T&K had to remove the existing asphalt, crush it on site at the Braintree facility and re-install and regrade the site... . all the while meeting all of the existing grades at the edges of the parking lot.

To add to the challenge, none of this work could be done during normal business hours because the parking lot needed to be accessed by KeySpan employees and KeySpan's operations could not be impacted. Therefore, T&K needed to divide the parking lot into two projects and complete the job over the course of two weekends.

In the end, T&K was able to remove the asphalt, crush it on-site, regrade, pave & linestripe on two Sundays to be ready for Monday morning activity. The parking lot was completed on time while exceeding the challenging specifications.
