Concrete needs a solid base in order to succeed. An important base needs to be solid, leveled, and properly sloped. Poor prep can lead to cracking, water pooling, a failing structure, and costly repairs down the road. At T&K, we take pride in doing it right from the start.
Step 1: Demolition Done Right
Every job begins with a clean slate. Whether we are removing failed asphalt or concrete, we always secure each site with cones for safe debris removal and prep the site for what’s next. Whether it’s breaking up decades-old slabs or removing a failing surface, we make quick work of the tear-out process.
Step 2: Grading with Purpose
Next up: grading. This isn’t just about making our subbase level, it’s about ensuring proper drainage, stability, and load support. Our team uses laser-guided equipment and compactors to ensure the subbase, so the new pour has the perfect slope, drainage, and a foundation to last for decades.
Step 3: Base Material & Formwork
Before any concrete is poured, we install the right gravel base, compact it thoroughly, and set durable formwork to define the exact shape and depth of the pour. Forms are set to exact elevation and dimensional tolerances, with reinforcement bar (rebar) or welded wire mesh installed per the structural design. Proper form setup ensures edge integrity, controls slab dimensions, and prevents honeycombing at pour time. Attention to detail here sets the tone for everything that follows.
